The Ashland County Humane Society is a non-profit, tax exempt, VOLUNTEER based organization dedicated to the welfare of animals in the Ashland County area.

The Humane Society is NOT affiliated with the Ashland County Dog Shelter.

We do not have a building or a staff and rely greatly on our network of foster homes and local animal welfare advocates and organizations.

The Humane Society funds itself through its own fund-raising efforts, animal surrender and adoption fees, and the generosity of the local community. All members of the Board of Directors and committees are unpaid volunteers.

The Ashland County Humane Society takes in homeless cats and kittens, caring for them until they can be adopted into loving homes. We do not have a shelter, so our cats are housed in volunteer foster homes while awaiting adoption.  Many of our cats and kittens can be seen at the Ashland Pet Store and Petsmart Ontario.  Both places have our application for you to complete and submit for approval.

All of our cats are feline leukemia tested & FIV tested, wormed, micro chipped, receive vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered prior to being placed up for adoption. We charge an adoption fee of $100 for each cat or kitten to offset veterinary costs.

The Ashland County Humane Society  works with the Mansfield Correctional Institution's Tender Loving Care Program to help homeless dogs in need. Dogs enrolled in the program are housed at the prison, and are cared for by specially selected inmates, who also train the dogs.

The inmates teach the dogs basic obedience, including verbal commands and hand signals, crate training and leash training, making them easier to adopt into families.

All of the dogs receive vaccinations and are spayed or neutered and micro-chipped prior to adoption. An adoption fee helps to offset veterinary expenses.  Adoption fees vary.

We have many other dogs also available that are not Cell Dogs.

Cat: $100 includes spay/neuter, deworming, micro-chipping, Feline Leukemia & FIV test, Distemper & Leukemia vaccination and Rabies (if old enough).

Dog: Fee varies and includes spay/neuter, deworming, DHLPP, Bordatella vaccinations, Rabies (if old enough) and micro-chipping

The Humane Society accepts Credit Card and Debit Card as payment (no checks, no cash).
